Alpha Sigma Phi

About Us

Alpha Sigma Phi National Fraternity was founded in the campus  of Yale University in 1845. A vision that was seen by three young men has today grown to over 60 chapters, colonies and interest groups nationwide, including here at the University of Rio Grande.

The Delta Epsilon chapter was founded on April 22, 1972.  Dr. Larry G. Spees, Ohio Wesleyan '56, envisioned an Alpha Sig chapter at this university, much like at his alma mater.  Dr. Spees approached the then members of Alpha Tau Delta, a local fraternity with roots on the Rio Grande campus dating back to 1929.   

Dr. Spees and members of other chapters and the National office helped the new group develop a bond that to this day still exists with all members initiated.  Since that day when the fraternity was first introduced to the campus, 430 men have experienced firsthand what this fraternity has to offer.  The brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi are committed to academics, community service, ritual and most importantly, brotherly love.

As the fraternity moves into its 162nd year and the chapter celebrates it's 35th anniversary, many new and exciting changes along with traditions we care very much about, are defining a new century of continued growth, achievement and success.

The Delta Epsilon Chapter thrives on success stories of our brotherhood and the dedication to our reasons for being.  We would like to offer this experience to men at our campus. 

Why Alpha Sigma Phi

Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Delta Epsilon Chapter is dedicated to living to the high standards set forth by the Grand Council and National Headquarters of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.

Our efforts to achieve the goals set forth by the chapter and national organization reflect programs designed to perpetuate brotherhood.

Each year the chapter is visited by national consultants to assess the progress towards our goals.  With this assistance and the dedication of the brotherhood, we are constantly looking at new ways to increase the success of the chapter.

The chapter also has six brothers who have received the Delta Beta Xi Award.  This award is given annually to no more than 10 alumni brothers on a national level for service to the fraternity.  The Delta Epsilon chapter recipients are: Dr. Larry G. Spees, Mark A. Williams, Kevin Honold, Jeff Lewis, Scott Copley and Todd Reigle.
